LEGO Queen Anne’s Revenge 4195 Review

Lego Queen Anne’s Revenge, set 4195 is one of two large pirate ship sets from Lego’s Pirates Of the Caribbean theme (the other is The Black Pearl Set 4184). The Queen Anne’s Revenge pirate ship comes from the fourth film in this popular film series, On Stranger Tides.

In the film the “hero” Captain Jack Sparrow and his old friend Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive Fountain Of Youth, only to discover that the fearsome pirate Blackbeard and his daughter, Angelica, are after it too.

The name of the set refers to Blackbeard’s ship, Queen Anne’s Revenge which is rather ominous looking pirate galleon, full of dark bricks, sails and enough bones decorating it’s hull to fill a graveyard.

Lets take a closer look at the set:

Lego Queen Anne’s Revenge Set

The set comes with 7 minifigures

  • Lego BlackbeardBlackbeard
  • Jack Sparrow
  • Angelica
  • Quartermaster
  • Cook
  • 2 pirates

Inside the box the eight bags of Lego, seven of which are numbered. The numbered bags outline the steps taken to build the set, broken down as per the order of the instructions. The eighth bag encloses the mast and rigging.

There is also a stiff cardboard envelope with sails in it which is a lovely touch from Lego.

For years the company shipped items such as sails and other flexible materials just free-floating in the box. It was often a game of chance whether the flat items would be squashed by the bags of lego and other elements floating around during transit.

This is a wonderful improvement and I hope Lego continues to pack their sets like this.

On the Dockyard: Building Lego Queen’s Anne’s Revenge

The Build is fairly straightforward with two instruction books covering the major construction of this one large ship.

The set has 1094 Lego pieces and as such is suitable for 9-16 year olds, or as we always say any child from about the age of 7 who has had previous experience with Lego or who has an enthusiastic parent to spend some time helping with tricky bits.

The detail on the Lego instructions these days means it is easier for younger kids who are spatially or visually minded to follow the steps sequentially.

Having said that it would be a good idea for a parent to be “keeping one weather eye on the horizon” for any major “construction/instruction” discrepancies to save heartbreak and major reconstruction at a later stage.

Back to the ship!

There are stickers included (audible groan) and the sticker sheet features glow-in-the-dark skull stickers and flame graphics that you use to adorn the hull and cabin.

Also included in the box are a collectable card (Blackbeard) and a large poster featuring all the sets in the Lego Pirates Of the Caribbean series.

You are looking at a build time of at least 90 minutes but it is an enjoyable experience. There are very few repetitive moments and overall it is a beautiful ship to build.

The hull is made of nine separate pieces which makes building the ship faster and easier for younger hands.

On the ship are a galley, captain’s cabin, upper deck area and firing cannons. The crimson red sails look beautiful against the dramatic black of the ship and this is one model you won’t want to take apart for spares anytime soon.

The detail on the galleon is impressive with lots of little fine decorations all over the deck and cabin to make it seaworthy but also befitting the persona of the feared Blackbeard.

I won’t spoil all the surprises as it really is a set you will want to see in person.

Interestingly Queen Anne’s Revenge was a real Galleon sailed by the actual historical figure of Blackbeard so it is nice to see it represented in Lego, albeit via the guise of a major movie.

The Minifigures

The seven minifigures in the set include most of the major characters from the movie and complement the potential play features of the ship perfectly.

The detail on the figures’ torso and legs is also impressive and you can see Lego has pulled out all the stops to make their first Pirates Of the Caribbean sets memorable, even the chef has detail!

Queen Anne’s Revenge Lego Set

Our Rating:

This is a wonderful set for young Lego fans who are interested in Pirates. Even though kids may be too young to see the film, the ship and characters are generic enough to appeal to all.

There are a few skeletons and the overall feel of the ship is rather gloomy for sensitive kids but if they are into that sort of thing this is a well crafted set with lots of playable features and figures.

Highly Recommended!
