Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon – Set 7965 Review

Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon 7965 BoxThe Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon represents one of the most iconic spaceships of the Star Wars saga, and is a ship Lego have created four times (in minifig scale) in the last 10 years.

Lego fans love the Millennium Falcon and it is a set that, once it sells out at retail stores, demands a consistently high price on the secondary market…that is, until the next version is released.

The latest version of the Falcon is one of the best designs so far and Lego fans have appreciated the layout of the ship, it’s playability and the unique mix of minifigures.

Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon
– A Little Background

Millennium FalconFirst introduced in the original Star Wars film, A New Hope in 1977, the Millennium Falcon was described by the film’s hero as “A piece of Junk”. To quote the ship’s owner, Han Solo we respond by saying “It may not look like much but it’s got it where it counts kid.”

But personally, I love the way this ship looks :0)

The Falcon subsequently appeared in all the original trilogy films and was responsible for the destruction of the Empire’s second Death Star in Return of the Jedi, so it has a lot of “heroic history” in the Star Wars universe.

The ship is based on a Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1300 Freighter and was used initially by Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca to smuggle goods throughout the galaxy.

In A New Hope  Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi hire the ship and it’s pilots to fly them to the planet Alderaan, beginning the ship’s seminal place in the Star Wars saga.

Having built an earlier Lego incarnation of the Millennium Falcon I must say I prefer this latest version and for me it is the best yet.

While the first Lego Millennium Falcon (7190) had a number of cool features (namely being the first such set) it wan’t particularly sturdy and the play area inside was basic and nothing to write home about.

This latest set is full of playable features and is easier to maneuver.

Out of the box the set comes with a sticker sheet, two manuals and numbered bags to help with the build which will take around 3-4 hours depending on your Lego-skills and your level of commitment. A child who has already built a number of other Lego sets should have little trouble building this though may need a little help at certain points.

Having said that, a set like this is big enough for a parent to get involved as well if you like building the sets with your kids.

Design and Size

Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon 7965 InteriorThe great thing about this large Lego set is that it can be used both as a spaceship and a playset.

While you can place the figures in the cockpit and the central area of the ship and fly it around, you can also open the whole thing up using the swivelled hull plates on the roof and play with the figures inside.

The interior comes with a computer area to monitor the hyperdrive, chairs to operate the laser cannons, a bed, a Dejarik or Holochess table, a cockpit to seat two figures side by side and hidden smuggling compartments. there is also lots of potential for kids to add to the interior if they like doing their own modifications (part of the fun of Lego).

Minifigures

The selection of minifigures is well balanced and includes an exclusive Luke Skywalker with blast shield figure, a new Han Solo and a new Princess Leia. Other figures include Han Solo, Chewbacca, Ben Kenobi, Princess Leia Organa and Darth Vader.

The only other two figure that would round the set out would be R2-D2 and C-3PO but they are currently available in other sets like Luke’s Landspeeder which would make a wonderful complement to this set.

Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon: Review

The Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon is great set if your child likes the Star Wars movies. It is iconic and full of play potential beyond the build which is satisfying for a child-it feels like a real accomplishment.

Being a bigger set it also makes for a wonderful bonding opportunity for parents and kids, something for a holiday or rainy day when you can both relax and make the set while listening to John Williams’ immortal soundtrack.

I know thats what I will be doing over the next holiday and I can’t wait :0)

At The Brick Life we recommend purchasing Lego from Amazon for peace of mind. Having been cheated out of my money on ebay purchases and with Paypal over the last year I feel it is no longer a reliable place to buy Lego. After dealing with both ebay and Amazon for the last 5 years I feel more comfortable with spending my money with Amazon.
