The Lego Unimog is the largest Lego Technic set ever made- and that is saying something!

When images of this Lego model of the Mercedes Benz masterpiece were first released (leaked) fans went nuts over the Unimog’s design.

It is without a doubt one of the most awesome Lego models ever made and a definite must have if you can endure the hours and hours of painstaking (but ultimately rewarding) construction involved in putting this model together.

Lego Unimog – A Closer Look

This is a big model and really only recommended for older Lego Technic fans who have already wet their feet in the world of beams, pins and cogs. All up you are looking at around 8 hours of construction so be prepared to set aside some serious time!

Having said that, the build may be long but if you or your child is interested in the details it is never boring.

The Lego Unimog box is big and heavy. Seriously consider getting this shipped to you for a flat rate or be prepared to pay alot for postage. If you plan to buy from a physical store, don’t park your car too far away :0)

There are 5 instruction books in total, each full of detailed construction.

Unlike many Lego instruction books where one can spend a long time discerning whether a piece is supposed to be Black or Dark Grey, these particular instructions makes the difference easily identified.

Which is a blessing because, with a 2048 piece count, you do not want to get half way through building the Lego Unimog only to discover you have put the wrong color piece in 30 steps ago!

The pieces are sealed in 4 different bags – 1 contains the chassis, 2 has the cab, 3 the dump tray, and 4 for the rest.

Wow! Seriously…wow!

The completed Lego Unimog model is so full of playable goodness and just looks so impressive.

The model rolls very easily on the large rubber tires and the suspension is very bouncy.

The crane (which operates using Pneumatics) is a very cool addition. It is powerful, and would be interesting to test the amount it can lift (if you are interested in that sort of thing).

Really describing the Lego Unimog in words is a little difficult for me because I don’t know all the technical terms to convey the various elements accurately enough…Perhaps I’ll let others do the talking (and video-ing).
