Lego sent us some great new images of their upcoming Lego Lord Of the Rings theme, due for release in July and December 2012 to herald the upcoming Hobbit movie.
Included was a shot of the full Fellowship, the nine companions chosen by the Council Of Elrond to set out to destroy the Ring.
They include two men (Aragorn and Boromir), one dwarf (Gimli), one elf (Legolas) and four Hobbits (Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin).
I think the likenesses are epic (to quote my son) and I can see these figures will be gracing my desk under my already existing Treebeard action figure (Lego Merry and Pippin will have a blast!)
The complementary image from Lego was of a number of “Bad Guys” from the books/film – An Uruk-Hai, a Ringwraith, a Moria Orc and a Mordor Orc and lastly, Gollum – of whom we are also blessed with a large Hi-res poster. Gollum is one of those “Villains” with so much depth to them that you don’t feel quite right labelling them as a bad guy.
Overall, I think I can speak for most of the LOTR/LEGO community when I say these figures look truly wonderful – full of the detail and character that makes the books and films so special.
And if I have one wish of a character to see in the Lego Lord Of the Rings theme it would be Treebeard…followed closely by the Balrog. And then…well I’ll just stop there because there is an unlimited well from which the designers can draw from and I can’t wait to see where they take the theme over the next year or so!
Thanks Lego 🙂
