Lego Batman DC Superheroes Unite Movie Trailer

The Lego Batman DC Superheroes Unite Movie Trailer has been released.

The movie which is due for release on DVD/Blu ray and Digital Download early next year looks like a lot of fun, bringing together many of the Justice League and DC Universe cast of heroes and villains from the comics and cartoons.

My only concern is that it looks primarily like cut scenes from the video game…?

Marvel – A Background

Who are Marvel and why is it such a big deal that Lego has liscenced their properties?

Marvel Comics

Essentially Marvel is a comic company. They have grown into much more than that in recent years (now considered more of an “entertainment” company) but at their essence they make comics.

Marvel started out in 1939 and started producing comics when they were still considered a threat to children’s minds. Believe it or not, once upon a time, comics were blamed for many of the problems of childhood including delinquency and illiteracy! It’s hard to believe that now they are used as tools in schools and libraries to encourage reluctant readers to read.

The first major releases for Marvel were suspense comics but under the guidance of Stanley Lieber, otherwise known as Stan Lee, the company started to produce superhero characters and Lee himself is credited with the creation or co-creation of some very well known characters including Spider-Man, the Hulk, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, and the Avengers!

Stan Lee is still around and considered a legend in the comics medium. In fact you can actually catch Stan Lee making Hitchcock-ian cameos in all the Marvel movies released so far (Iron Man, Thor, etc).

Lego Marvel Sets

Lego acquired the license to produce sets based on the Marvel Universe of characters in late 2011.

But this is not the first time they have made sets based on the comic company’s characters. In 2002, to coincide with the release of the major movie re-launch, they turned everybody’s favorite arachnid into brick-form. Lego Spiderman sets were popular for the next two years but Lego let the license grow as interest waned.

This time around it is not just Spider-Man and his friends that will get the brick treatment. The new license means Lego now has permission to source from Marvel’s entire character gallery – including Wolverine, Magneto, Professor X and the rest of the X-Men, Thor, Iron Man, Daredevil, Hawkeye, Black Widow, the Hulk, Captain America and many, many more.

Lego Super Heroes – Marvel And DC

The main rivals to Marvel in the superhero comics industry is DC Comics who created characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Justice League of America.

In the past the competition between these two publishing giants has been fierce and sometimes not very friendly. So when Lego announced that both companies would be joining together under the Lego Super Heroes banner, fans knew this was an amazing moment.

If you aren’t familiar with the comics industry, lets say it’s similar to Sony and Nintendo producing a games console together. Or Coke and Pepsi making a new jointly-created soft drink. These things just don’t happen!

But they did. And Lego made it happen.

We have written a guide to the Lego Avengers sets, including set details, a guide to the movie, comics for kids, books, cartoons and more.

We will continue to update the site as more information on Lego Marvel sets are released.
